Sunday bible school
Shenuka Fernando2021-09-16T22:08:11+00:00There are evidence that the Indibedda bible School was started in 1865, but since the Moratumulla bible School was established in 1871 at the Moratumulla Church, the Indibedda children also participated. According to the new revival of the Indibedda Church in 1876, Sunday School was started with 41 boys and 46 girls. However, it was reopened in 1893 under the leadership of Rev.B.A.Mendis and with the support of C.P.Rodrigo,M.S.Fernando and J.S.Fernando
The Indibedda Bible School, based on the theme “ තමා පිදීමෙන් ජය “ means, “Victory through Self-Sacrifice” consists of three sections, which are Infants section “සිඟිති අංශය”, junior school “බාලාංශය”, and upper school “ඉහල අංශය”.There are 28 children in the infants section, 26 students in the junior section, 76 children in the upper section and 41 teachers including officers.
Infants section:
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
From an early age, infants are drawn closer to God the Father through various activities to provide spiritual nourishment. Children who are brought in for baptism each year are admitted to the cradle class in November of that year and are then admitted to the infancy section. Teachers work hard to develop their presentation skills by teaching Bible stories to these young children, training them in choruses, and directing them to hand crafts and drawings.
Infants section:
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it”
Children studying from grade 1to grade 5 are included in the junior section. Classes are held after a period of praise and worship, strives to provide spiritual nourishment to children with divine guidance. Bible verse memorization, Practice hymns and Bible-related activities guide the planting of God’s Word in children. Every child gets to celebrate their birthday and the teachers pray for them.
Upper Section:
The classes begins after a short worship service conducted by a teacher. The Children have been divided into two houses, “coke” and “Wesley” and End of the classes the Teachers conduct various activities and programs between children to improve friendship and the talents. The skills of writing sermons, bible reading, and Bible knowledge are evaluated every year. The teachers organize an Art competition, Speech competition and Character competition in every end of year and the children participate with great interest.
